That\u2019s what my daughter told me one afternoon while scrolling on my phone. At first, I laughed. Then it hit me\u2014she believed it.<\/p>

That moment made me realize something: this is the world our kids are growing up in<\/strong>. A world where information\u2014both true and false\u2014spreads faster than we can fact-check. And as parents, we\u2019re right in the middle of it.<\/p>

Did you know that 67% of Filipinos believe disinformation is a serious problem<\/strong>? It\u2019s not just about politics anymore. It\u2019s about health, education, self-esteem\u2014everything that shapes how our kids see the world.<\/p>

So how do we guide them without controlling everything they do online? How do we raise critical thinkers when fake news is just one scroll away?<\/p>

Why Fake News Hit Me as a Parent<\/strong><\/h2>

My daughter is only six, but she already knows how to search YouTube and read simple captions. Kids are online earlier than we think\u2014and that means they\u2019re exposed to everything, good and bad.<\/p>

The tricky part? Kids often believe what they see online, especially if it looks fun or comes from someone they like. That\u2019s why fake news is not just a media issue\u2014it\u2019s a parenting challenge.<\/p>

And honestly, I can\u2019t just take away the phone. The internet isn\u2019t going anywhere. What I can do is teach her how to be smart about it<\/strong>.<\/p>

Start with Conversations (Even Small Ones)<\/strong><\/h2>

I used to think media literacy was something schools should handle. But I realized it starts at home\u2014through everyday conversations.<\/p>

When my daughter told me about the cola \u201ccure,\u201d I didn\u2019t say, \u201cThat\u2019s wrong.\u201d<\/em> Instead, I asked, \u201cHmm, do you think that\u2019s true? Why would someone post that?\u201d<\/em><\/p>
