A harsh tone. A deep sigh. A moment of impatience I instantly regret.<br data-start=\"643\" data-end=\"646\" \/>And then I remember \u2014 it\u2019s not my child I\u2019m angry at. It\u2019s my <em data-start=\"708\" data-end=\"721\">inner child<\/em>, still carrying the pain of the past.<\/p><p data-start=\"763\" data-end=\"1049\">If you grew up in a home where love sometimes looked like silence, fear, or control, you probably know how hard it is to raise your own kids differently. But the good news is \u2014 you can.<br data-start=\"948\" data-end=\"951\" \/>We can.<\/p><hr data-start=\"1051\" data-end=\"1054\" \/><h2 data-start=\"1056\" data-end=\"1099\">1. It means creating a space where emotions are allowed \u2014 even the hard ones.<\/p><p data-start=\"2903\" data-end=\"2932\">Here are a few ways to start:<\/p><ul data-start=\"2933\" data-end=\"3282\"><li data-start=\"2933\" data-end=\"3016\"><p data-start=\"2935\" data-end=\"3016\">Validate feelings. Let your child know it\u2019s okay to be sad, mad, or scared.<\/p><\/li><li data-start=\"3017\" data-end=\"3099\"><p data-start=\"3019\" data-end=\"3099\">Apologize when you lose control.
